Using a flat belt, the rotation of a cone on the driving shaft is transmittet to another cone on the driven shaft. By means of a geartrain between this shaft and a treaded spindle shaft the attached carriage guides the belt along the cones. The varying cone diameters involved in this type of transmission thus cause variable changes of ratios and speeds.
